The Senior Division Counsel serves as the lead legal resource for our Global Manufacturing client based in Michigan.  This role works closely with business and functional units on a broad range of matters, including complex legal and compliance issues consistent with laws, regulations, and Client policies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing the Divisional legal team
  • Contributing to solutions to complex enterprise-level problems which could have a significant impact on the company
  • Prioritizing multiple issues and coordinating with large project groups to develop solutions to complex problems
  • Providing legal advice related to enterprise-wide issues and making decisions related to legal matters which could have a significant financial impact on the company including in litigation, intellectual property, employment, regulatory, M&A, compliance, investigations, commercial contracting, government relations, sales agreements, tender agreements, company secretarial issues, tax matters, and supply or vendor relationships
  • Responsible for a significant number of issues, prioritizing, and delivering timely results
  • Decisions will affect multiple areas of the organization including regulatory, finance, human resources, operations, supply chain, manufacturing, R&D, sales, and marketing, among others, divisions, and geographies
  • Supervising/overseeing and/or participating in the drafting, editing, negotiating complex contracts and proactively handling various commercial matters through to resolution
  • Providing timely advice and counsel to clients
  • Advising the business on industry trends and laws, regulations, and policies
  • Initiating, developing and providing in-house training and education
  • Following, implementing, developing and improving internal processes of greater significance and scope
  • Collaborating and communicating with colleagues, senior management, and outside counsel
  • Actively supervising and strategizing with outside counsel
  • Assisting on other matters as needed

Education & Special Training

  • Law degree and admission to practice law.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Requires a comprehensive understanding of and enterprise level leadership interaction with all areas of the organization including other functions (regulatory, finance, human resources, operations, supply chain, manufacturing, R&D, sales, and marketing, among others), divisions and geographies
  • Requires frequent and leadership-level interaction with outside organizations including industry associations, law firms, vendors, customers, government agencies, court systems, regulatory authorities, law enforcement authorities, consultants, health care professionals, and contractors, among others
  • Minimum 8 years applicable professional experience; prior professional experience considered
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment, professional demeanor, business acumen and executive presence

  • Has a general understanding of business financials and reporting
  • Has the ability to allocate resources effectively and, where relevant, general understanding of the budgeting process, expense and headcount management
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills and can manage numerous projects and conflicting demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels, including senior executive level, of corporate organization
  • Maintains highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite
