It’s nearing the end of the year again and I find many attorneys I speak with reluctantly looking ahead to 2019. Why? Because everything good that happened in 2018 is pretty much over. From a busy-ness standpoint, the year was good. Firms performed well, people made money, and now you need to go back out and do it all over again. Where is your business going to come from? Where are our shortcomings as a firm? What gaps exist in our practices? And the list goes on.

Before we hit the panic button, breathe. This is a good time of the year to reflect, strategize and implement new plans. Before you get there, take a moment to be thankful for all that was accomplished this year. Thankfulness is a virtue. Appreciate the little things that happen around you and within you every day.

Strategize what worked well in your business this year and what could be better. How am I positioning myself and my firm to be successful? Are there any wish list items that could help us better meet our clients’ needs? Operate with a mindset that those you are competing with are working harder at these things than you.

Implementing 2019 strategy starts now. If you wait until January, it’s too late. Playing catch up is never fun!
